Hey this a new edition of TGIM Episode 7. Now I wanna thank this “Thank God it’s Monday” to the young man in Alabama who called me and said “Eric for real I’m digging the whole concept of TGIM, I’m loving the principles but between me and you E I’m having some stand power issues. Like fore real I’m a junior in college but for whatever reason I couldn’t get financial aid, my money is messed up –again I’m loving the principles but I’m having a hard time staying focused, staying pumped up” this one’s for you (TGIM Episode 7).

TGIM Episode 7

Alright real quick principles in TGIM Episode 7, principle number one listen to me very carefully come in, come in. Principle number one in TGIM Episode 7 is “Keep your eyes on the prize” that’s right, stay locked in and focus on the goal. You gotta block everything out, hear what I’m telling you; you gotta block everything out, you gotta be willing to block out the pain, you gotta be willing to block out the disappointment, you gotta be willing to block it all out and keep your eyes on the prize. Listen to me, ask yourself the question “What do you want?” I can’t answer that for you, what do you want? Is it a degree? You wanna build a marriage? You wanna make the team? You want a better GPA? I’m not really sure but as yourself the question “What is it you want?” Then after you ask yourself the question “What do you want?” You gotta ask yourself this “Are you willing to pay the price?”

TGIM Episode 7 Block Negative People

That’s right you gotta block out all the negative people, you gotta block out every single obstacle and you gotta keep your eyes on the prize you gotta stay focused -in the words of the great Wayne Buckner he said “if it was easy, everybody would do it” you heard exactly what I said if it was easy to have a great marriage everybody would do it, if was easy to get your masters, get your PHD everybody would do it, if it was easy to get a 4.0 in every class everybody would do it. So number one, if you want to get past the pain, if you wanna get past the disappointments, if you wanna get to your goal you gotta stay locked in, you gotta keep your eyes on the prize, you gotta be focused.

Principle number two in TGIM Episode 7, come in real simple –principle number two of TGIM Episode 7 is “Twenty Four” that’s right twenty four. I need you to do me a big favor, I need you to learn to focus on the next twenty four hours and no more because I’m gonna tell you what happens –you start thinking about a week, you start thinking about a month, you start thinking about what you gonna do next year man you’ll get overwhelmed. I need you to do me a huge favor and I need you to learn to stay locked in on a twenty four hour time frame. Nothing less and nothing more, that’s right take it one day at a time, take it one day at a time you heard what I said “Twenty four hours” and if you learn the twenty four hour principle in TGIM Episode 7, if you can learn to take it one day at a time, I guarantee you will never get overwhelmed.

TGIM Episode 7 Lessons

See the problem when you start thinking about an entire week, when you start thinking about an entire month, when you start thinking about an entire year what happens is you get overwhelmed and when you get overwhelmed you get a spirit of anxiety and the spirit of overwhelmness comes over you what happens is you don’t make the best decisions. Alright if you can learn to live in a twenty four hour time frame what you allow yourself to do is you allow yourself to understand that it’s manageable. So what I told the young man on the phone was “Listen to me, stop worrying about next semester, right? Stop worrying about the semester after that” listen to me you focus on today, focus on today and if you focus on those twenty four hours –you can realize that it’s manageable and once you understand that it’s manageable and that it’s doable you’re going to be alright. The problem is when you start thinking about an entire week, an entire month, an entire year it gets overwhelming so do yourself a favor –yup you got the big picture but now I want you to break it down into manageable pieces and how do you do that? You do that one day at a time, you heard what I said; not one week, not one month, not one year you do it one day at a time.

My final principle of TGIM Episode 7 is, man you gotta draw on your faith. That’s right I said you gotta draw on your faith. Oprah Winfrey once said that “You gotta pray as if everything depends upon God but then you have to act as if everything depends on you.” So this final one is “You gotta draw on your faith” to get to that next level.

I wanna read one of my favorite texts to you –Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” That’s right my last one is you gotta draw on your faith, the bible declares those that wait upon the LORD –alright so when you feel down, you feel out and you feel like man you just can’t take it anymore I want you to rely on your faith, I want you to rely on your prayer and I want you to rely on the promises of God.
